Miracle On Ice will live on in Colorado Springs

One side of the scoreboard from Herb Brooks Arena — previously known as the Lake Placid Fieldhouse — has been donated to the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Hall of Fame that is under construction in Colorado Springs.

The arena is best known as the venue for the 1980 Miracle On Ice, when a team of unheralded American players upset the vaunted Soviet Union to win the gold medal in men’s ice hockey at the Lake Placid 1980 Olympic Winter Games.

The arena later was renamed in honor of the 1980 team’s coach, Herb Brooks.
